Commission To Rebuild Texas After Hurricane Harvey Update: Issue 25

“In a year that saw the state of Texas challenged by Hurricane Harvey — with its economic impact felt across the Coastal Bend region and beyond — it is a testament to the resilience of the people of Texas and the diversity of our economy to be named America’s Top State for Business by CNBC, the Best State for Startups by WalletHub, and again the Best State for Business by CEOs surveyed by Chief Executive magazine. Today, Texas leads all states in private-sector job creation, with over 346,300 private-sector jobs added over the last year. New business formation in Texas is at a five-year high, and jobs in Texas are now on pace for the strongest growth in four years. While recovery continues for our families, businesses and communities, it is because of the hardworking people of Texas that the future is so bright in the Lone Star State. ”

Commission To Rebuild Texas After Hurricane Harvey Update: Issue 24

“As Hurricane Harvey recovery continues and heavy rains and flooding hit portions of the state this week, now is the time to prepare for potential storms ahead this hurricane season. The State is actively readying resources and communication and response strategies to help protect families and property in the event of another hurricane. Because you are your family’s first line of defense, I encourage Texans to put together an emergency supply kit, create a communication plan, prepare homes for storms and heed all warnings from local officials. For more safety and preparedness tips, visit TexasPrepares.org. To check road conditions at any time, visit DriveTexas.org.”

Texas Awarded $13 Million In Fishery Disaster Funds For Harvey Recovery

Governor Greg Abbott announced that Texas has been awarded over $13 million in grant funding for the rebuilding of commercial and recreational fishing industries affected by Hurricane Harvey. This announcement comes after Governor Abbott sent a letter to U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in February requesting that the Department of Commerce recognize a federal fishery resources disaster along the Texas Gulf Coast.

“The economic impact of Texas’ commercial and recreational fishing industries is of tremendous importance to both residents and tourists alike,” said Governor Abbott. “These funds will provide coastal businesses with the additional resources they require in order to make a full recovery. I thank our federal partners and Secretary Ross for recognizing the critical role the fishing industry plays in the Lone Star State and the U.S. economy.”

The more than $13 million in grants announced today is a part of $200 million allocated by the Department of Commerce to states affected by declared fishery resources disasters.
